Google Talk is an application of the Windows application which has Voice over IP facility and offers the facility of instant message that is monitored by the Google. The first ever beta version of Google talk was launched on August 24 in the year 2005. The Google Talk instant messaging servers along with its clients makes use of an open protocol called XMPP. This allows the users of the other clients of XMPP to be able to communicate with the users of Google Talk. The Voice over IP facility of Google talk which is called VoIP in short is related to the Jingle protocol.

But one of the most important facts about Google talk is that that the technology that is employed for the networking of the Google is not revealed to the public. The Google Talk client is at present available only to certain versions of the Windows operating system like Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003 and Windows Vista. With the launch of the gadget called Google no matter what platforms that users are using, any platform that can support the Adobe Flash Player can use Google Talk. Today there are many XMPP clients who are compatible with Google Talk and can also support a number of other platforms.
The features of Google talk are quite interesting. One of the main features of the Google talk is interoperability, which it has announced as one of its major goals. Google Talk offers extensible messaging service and also offers the facilities like offline messaging service as well as voice mailing service. By the month of January 2006, Google had introduced communication from server to server in collaboration with a Jabber server that could support the protocol for dialing back. There also have been recent talks over one feature of Google Talk that allows a member of Google Talk to see if their buddies on the list are active or not, that is they are available for chat or not. But they feel that there should me more control over this facility so that it does not lead to uninvited pop ups from unwelcome strangers. You can also use Google Talk for live chatting in Gmail. On 2006 Gmail was updated with the functionality of chat and came to be integrated with the Google Talk. The Gmail users can send messages to each other with the instant messaging service. Gmail users do not need to download Google Talk to communicate with instant messages.
Since 2006, Google Talk has been integrated with Orkut. Google Talk are allowed to do go for social networking with the registered members of Orkut and they can communicate via scraps. It also able to display the current music playing on the page called Google Music Trends. Google talk offers other facilities like voicemail and file sharing amongst the clients of Google Talk. The Voicemail messages in Google talk can be as long as 10 minutes long and they are sent to the mailbox of Gmail to the concerned person and it gets attached in the form of a MP3 file.
