Best Instant Messenger |
|
|
Instant messaging is an entirely different ball game than e-mail. The filed is always wide open for the best Internet Messenger. When you send an e-mail, it is at a server waiting for the recipient to log on and read their e-mail (kind of like an answer phone). Instant messaging takes place at once (like the telephone). You and the person you want to talk to and type to each other, need to both be on the Internet at the same time. It is like chat except it's like a private room between two persons. Instant messaging applications also tell you who is on line and available for chat at the time.

For instant message you need an instant messenger. A host of instant messaging programs are available and your choice depends on which instant messengers your other friends use for instant messaging.
The race is always on for the best Internet messenger. The major program is MSN built into Windows XP and is installed automatically. ICQ can be downloaded from http://www.icq.com AOL also has a second IM program called AIM, AOL Instant Messenger. If you and most of your friends are on AOL for Internet this is most likely the best option as it's already built and bundled into AOL's software. If you don't have AOL but all your friends do you can download AIM on it's own from www.aol.com/aim. Yahoo IM, an instant messenger of search engine Yahoo!, if you already have a Yahoo! account for Yahoo! groups etc then you can use this with their IM from http://messenger.yahoo.com. / . G-Talk – is IM from Google. ICQ was the first general Instant Messenger, the main problem with this is that your ID on this system is a number that is chosen for you so you have to remember it. ICQ was called this as it was developed by amateur radio enthusiasts and when searching for someone you call “I seek you” - ICQ
There are also some all in one messengers which deserve to be considered for the best instant messenger. Of course if you have many friends that use many different instant messengers you could always use an all-in-one instant messenger such as Miranda ( http://www.miranda-im.org ) Miranda allows you to receive messages from most of the above Internet Messengers, and also includes access to IRC (like chat rooms), and has plug-ins to allow checking and notification of e-mail, etc. Miranda is free. Trillian ( http://www.ceruleanstudios.com ) is just like Miranda except you need to buy the Pro version for the plug-ins.
The risks with using IM messaging programs are viruses, interaction with strangers who have good chances of fraudulent and being predators. So choose carefully the best instant messenger and exercise caution with accepting files and meeting Internet plas.
If most of your friends are all using the same IM program say the most popular ones , Google Chat or MSN, then it's probably best to only use the same one as them. However if they use different IM programs then go for Miranda or Trillian. The only hitch with these all-in-one programs is that every time one of the other messengers is upgraded, you gotta wait.
